Grounding New Technology in the Local

Building on my oral history project which began the process of ‘mapping’ the local, I then explored how a location can also be ‘mapped’ experientially during workshop events, through what happens to the participant there. I continue to ‘map’ the local landscape, offering a different view through new media, a novel way to connect with it and raise its status.

Using new media also raises the profile of the arts locally. These are high resolution LIDAR scans made for social media and display in local non-gallery contexts. They can be interacted with as virtual reality views highlighting the environment to an audience who don’t usually engage with it while introducing exciting new media to a community who are normally excluded from such developments.
